Elite Futurity scoring embryo transfer foals take further honours at Osberton

Barbara Heaton Smith’s embryo transfer twin brother foals took first and second place in the foal class at the Oakham Veterinary In-Hand Championship at the Osberton International Horse Trials on the 29th September 2016. Both foals gained elite Futurity premiums earlier in the year at the British Equestrian Federation / Baileys Horse Feeds / British Breeding Futurity.

Colt foal, Diamonds CAWever (Futurity score 9.04) (Diamond Hit x Ring of Ford) won the foal class convincingly and his full colt foal brother, CAWrus Boy (9.29) took the runner up spot. Both these foals born by embryo transfer have Barbara’s mare, CAW Blimey as their dam. CAW Blimey has bred a total of four elite Futurity scoring youngsters. Sue Simmons’ filly foal, Clarissa of Westoak (9.08) (Classic Juan x Fuerstenreich) finished third of the Futurity entries in the foal class.

Jane Townshend’s yearling, Classictop Up and At It (9.25) (Up With The Lark x Roviris) finished best of the Futurity yearlings at Osberton. Ashelene Bagshaw’s, Prince of Thieves (8.54) (Primitive Proposal x Frankfort Boy) and Lisa Maynard’s, Flying Gravitas (8.96) (Future Gravitas x Magic Ring) rounded off the top three Futurity youngsters in the yearlings.

Mrs NP Carmichael’s two-year-old filly, Florissa (8.67) (Floriscount x Wolkentanz) was the highest placed Futurity youngster in this class. Myspires Another Star (8.33) (Myspires Revolution x Hurt her Van Berkenbroek) was second of the Futurity horses for Kayleigh Nicholls and Jason Newbold’s, Jimbo Too (8.50) (Jumbo x Randi) was third.

Sadly, the top scoring three-year-old of the 2016 Futurity, Jane Marson’s, Heritage Arrakis (9.18) (Heritage Orion x Carnival Drum) was unable to attend Osberton. Best Futurity finisher in the class was Annabel Blake’s, Britannia Royal (8.71) (Royaldik x Jumbo) with Tinka’s De Niro (8.83) (Dark De Niro x Tinka’s Boy) for Nikki Hazlett and Lloyd Newton’s, Waterbeckbeck Jazzmine (8.45) (Up With The Lark x Quenn’s Soldier (USA)) the next best Futurity horses.

The Oakham Veterinary In-Hand Championship classes were judged by ex-event rider, Janet Cope and international rider, Clare Chamberlayne. Entries were well up on previous years and all high scoring Futurity eventing youngsters were offered discounted entry fees.

Jan Rogers, Head of Equine Development at the BEF said: “It is very encouraging for the Futurity to see the youngsters that have been assessed as elite going on to do well elsewhere. The discounted entry fees for high scoring Futurity horses would appear to have ensured a good number of high class youngstock entered at Osberton.”
