Leading the way throughout the competition and finishing with 30 points, the East Kent Hunt Pony Club stormed through their heats to claim the coveted cup final. Following close behind was last year’s winners the Monmouthshire branch with 27 points, while Romney Marsh and Eglington Hunt finished in third and fourth place.
This win was particularly special to the team and their supporters as this was only the second time the Club competed at HOYS, qualifying last in 2003. Qualifying back in July, the team comprised of Imogen Lyons, Megan Tutt, Ellie Tutt , Charlotte Giles, Brooke King and Abbie Bean all commented that they had worked extremely hard to achieve their dreams of competing at HOYS and were all looking forward to meeting new people. After establishing itself as a small Pony Club Branch in 1933 the club grew steadily and is now home to more than two hundred members.
In the wake of East Kent’s success all teams proceeded forward to the first round of the Virbac 3D Worming Pony Club Mounted Games- Prince Philip Cup. Oakley Hunt took the lead on 22 points followed by Romney March in second, despite putting in tremendous efforts. Wylye Valley and Eglinton Hunt finished third and fourth respectively.
The competition resumes in the Andrews Bowen international Arena on Friday 7th at 13:40.
