Hoof affiliated centre raises funds for Children in Need

Witherslack Hall Equestrian Centre, a Hoof affiliated centre in Cumbria has raised over £1,300 for BBC Children in Need by hosting a sponsored ride on 6 November 2016.

Members from the Centre’s Pony Club and Young Equestrians group took part in the sponsored ride dressed in spotty clothing and face paint to help raise funds to support this year’s appeal.

Deana Tarr Proprietor said: “We’re overwhelmed with the response we had to doing our Sponsored Ride as a fundraiser and would like to say a huge thank you to all those who took part! It was great fun supporting BBC Children in Need and to know that we’ve raised £1,350 is a fantastic feeling. ”

The Pony Club is the starting point for any young person who wants to learn to ride and care for horses. There are over 500 Pony Club Centres across the UK, giving all the benefits of Membership to those who don’t own a horse or pony.

Young Equestrians (YE) is a programme created by Hoof, the British Equestrian Federation’s (BEF) participation initiative, in collaboration with The Pony Club. The programme offers a club environment which is open to all, no matter your riding level and offers the opportunity to make friends, try new activities and have fun.

As well as being a Pony Club Centre and YE group, Witherslack Hall Equestrian Centre supports their local community by working closely with local residential schools for children and young adults who have struggled to engage in mainstream education. The sessions incorporate all aspects of riding and horse care, which helps to develop life skills such as confidence, leadership, emotional self-management and self-care.

BBC Children in Need works throughout the year to ensure that every child in the UK has a safe, happy and secure childhood, and the chance to reach their full potential. It relies on the energy and commitment of thousands of fundraisers and supporters across the UK, who donate their time and money to put on events in support of the Appeal. Whether doing your baking thing, your fancy-dress party thing or your challenge thing, every penny raised will help support projects across the UK.
