Roxloe Equestrian Centre in Stockton-on-Tees, launched their new equestrian facilities during National Give Horses a Go Weekend. Thanks to a British Equestrian Federation (BEF) Hoof Capital funding award of £9,627 the centre now features a new set of showjumps, mounted games equipment and will also be installing flood lights in their arena this winter.
Over the last three years the BEF has invested over £500,000 into riding centres and organisations to help increase participation in equestrian sports. Grants were awarded to those projects that could clearly deliver increased participation for equestrianism and have a positive sustainable impact to their local community.
On Sunday 18 September Roxloe launched this new equipment as part of as part of National Give Horses a Go Weekend. As well as offering FREE taster riding sessions to participants as part of the day, Roxloe Equestrian Centre also put on a showjumping lesson demonstration as well as a mounted games demonstration by the Cleveland Pony Club using the new Hoof Capital funded equipment.
“The jumps we received are absolutely fabulous and we couldn’t have done it without the Hoof funding”, said proprietor Jill Lowther. “As a result we are a lot busier and have been able to hire out the arena and jumps to local horse owners who have been very happy with the standard of the facilities.
“We are hoping to attract new riders and liveries to our yard and the aim is to start a new series of competitions using the jumps next spring/summer.”
Anna Hall, Head of Participation at the BEF said, “We are delighted to be able to support Roxloe. They were able to demonstrate how the new equipment would not only keep but encourage new participants to the riding centre, meet the needs of their liveries and allow them to run competitions for the benefit of the local equestrian community.
“Roxloe already host a Young Equestrians club, are a Pony Club centre, run Take Back the Reins courses for returning adult riders and support young volunteering through the Young Equestrian Leaders Award.
“Being able to provide diverse opportunities for people to develop their riding, regardless of whether they own a horse or pony is important to keep people active in equestrianism.”
