Horse power in action

A magnificent display of horsepower will replicate the farming year in a day at Collessie in Fife on Saturday the 1st of October when heavy horse enthusiasts from all over Scotland and beyond come together to present the fifth BHS Scotland Working Horse day.

Twenty “gentle giant” powerful Clydesdale horses will plough, cultivate, sow, roll and harrow before harvesting ,reaping and binding as they plant and gather the harvest using vintage machinery.

The day will be compered by George Skinner Proprietor and working horse expert from Strathorn stables at Inverurie and the lead horse man and organiser is Benny Duncan from the Balmalcolm Clydesdales. The action takes place at a wonderful productive south facing field at Meadowells Farm in the parish of Collessie Fife by kind permission of RH Black.

If you love the spectacle and the wonderful heritage of our working horses or are interested to learn more, as we know working with horses is enjoying something of a revival at the moment; then this is the day for you. See the expertise of the horsemen, the careful design in the vintage horse drawn machinery as we share knowledge and the satisfaction of being around these great equines.

Forestry, harness decoration, dray rides and ponies working will also feature and equine welfare will be very much to fore.

Entrance is £10 which includes soup and a roll. This day is generously supported by the Clydesdale Horse Society.
