The Pony Club Regional Championships return bigger and better for 2017, thanks to continuing support from generous sponsors Land Rover.
Introduced in 2016, The Land Rover Pony Club Regional Championships were enormously popular, with 2,000 grassroots riders having the chance to experience a Championship environment at a level they felt confident in.
The competition has now been expanded for 2017, with Eventing running alongside Dressage and Show Jumping, giving Pony Club Members even more opportunities to take their first steps on the competitive ladder.
Mary Tuckett, Chairman of The Pony Club, said: “The Land Rover Regional Championships proved enormously successful in their debut year. We are delighted that Land Rover are continuing their support into 2017; enabling us to expand the competition to include Eventing alongside Dressage and Show Jumping, and giving even more Members at grassroots level the opportunity to experience a Championship environment and take their first steps on the competitive ladder “
Each of the nineteen Pony Club Areas will hold qualifying competitions, where the top teams and individuals will head to one of five Regional Championship events. Here, riders will be crowned winners in their regions and receive a wealth of prizes kindly donated by Land Rover.
Eventing competitors will need to ride a basic Dressage Test consisting of walk, trot and a small period of canter, before completing a Show Jumping round and jumping a Cross Country course with fences at 80cm.
The Dressage and Show Jumping Championships will follow the same format, with a walk, trot and canter Dressage Test and a course of 80cm Show Jumping.
Following the qualifier events, there will be a total of five Regional Championship events taking place during August and September at prominent equestrian venues around the UK:
With over 30 years heritage in the equestrian world, this partnership further cements Land Rover’s long term commitment to equestrian sport.
Scott Dicken, Marketing Director of Jaguar Land Rover UK, said: “The inaugural Land Rover Pony Club Regional Championships last year proved to be a great success and we are proud to be continuing our partnership with them in 2017. Supporting grassroots sport and developing young talent is important to Land Rover and we hope this competition will help shine the spotlight on some potential stars of the future.”
