Small things add up to Healthy Horses says KBHH

KBHHTaking care of the small things around your horse and about the stable yard makes a big difference’ is the current message from Keeping Britain’s Horses Healthy (KBHH), who is repeating its highly successful Horse Health Week this year, from September 26th – 30th 2016.

Throughout the week KBHH in association with the Animal Health Trust (AHT), the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) and World Horse Welfare (WHW) will be raising awareness of the benefits of preventative healthcare, advising on the small things that you can do to to make a big difference to the health of your own and the nation’s horses.

To support this year’s Horse Health Week theme, there is a social media campaign called #BonVoyageBuzz that you can actively take part in. Aimed at highlighting the fact that horses are the second most travelled species behind people, #BonVoyageBuzz will help us all to think more broadly about our horse’s connections and preventative healthcare. The campaign will see ‘Buzz’ the horse travel across Facebook during the week, providing an entertaining journey, with a serious message. You can help him on his way by stating your location and tagging three of your friends in the comments.

There is also an opportunity for you to take part in a survey and be in with a chance to win a KBHH branded gilet.

Knowing what is normal for your individual horse is an essential part of responsible horse ownership. Identifying any small changes makes a big difference to early detection of potential problems or disease and allows you to ensure you are doing all you can to keep your horse as healthy and happy as possible. A ‘Your Horse Health Checklist Guide’, produced by KBHH specifically for Horse Health Week, will guide you through the different health aspects to consider on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis as well as provide some general care advice.

Horse Health Week 2016 will also continue to promote the 7 pillars of preventative healthcare:

  1. Infectious Disease & Vaccination
  2. Parasite Control
  3. Getting the Right Nutrition
  4. Caring for your Horse’s Teeth
  5. General Well-being
  6. Caring for your Horse’s Feet
  7. Taking on a New Horse

Each pillar is supported by a Responsible Horse Owner Booklet all of which can be downloaded from www.healthyhorses.co.uk

Horse Health Week – September 26th – 30th. Put the date in your diary now and get ready to support, and take part in, what promises to be the worthiest week of the year.
